Top 10 Ayurvedic Remedies for Common Conditions

Ayurveda seeks to identify and treat the underlying imbalances of what ails you rather than focusing on eradicating symptoms. So many of the most common ailments can benefit from being seen from an Ayurvedic perspective. So, how can Ayurveda help you?

I’ve put together a list of some of the most common health conditions, and paired them with herbs or remedies that I’ve seen work wonders in my practice. The herbs in this Top 10 Ayurvedic Remedy Guide work by gently restoring digestive fire, nervous system balance, detox pathways, lymphatic health, immunity, and microbiome harmony… All so that your body regains resilience and balance. Wherever possible, I’ve linked to LifeSpa.com articles and ebooks for deeper learning and LifeSpa Store products for the exact formulas I referenced.

1. Digestive Bloat, Indigestion & Food Intolerance

According to Ayurveda, 85% of all disease starts with an imbalance of the digestive system. Ayurveda teaches that strong digestive fire (agni) is key to overall health. It supports nutrient breakdown, enzyme production, and healthy bile flow, all while reducing bloating, gas, and food intolerances.

>> Herbal Support: Gentle Digest Capsulesginger, cumin, cardamom, fennel, coriander

>> Get the science of how these spices reboot digestive strength in my article, 5 Spices to Rock Your Digestive World

These traditional spices help reset digestive function, rather than just masking symptoms. They support:

  • Balanced stomach acid
  • Pancreatic and intestinal enzyme activity
  • Healthy bile production
  • A favorable environment for beneficial gut microbes
  • Reduced gas, bloating & food sensitivities

2. Constipation

Ayurveda recognized the need to support the intestinal tract’s environment while toning the gut’s smooth muscle and increasing bile flow from the liver to encourage natural and regular elimination.

>>> Herbal Support:

  • Triphala: tones intestinal muscles, supports gentle elimination, maintains mucosal balance, and nourishes bowel function without harsh stimulation. Triphala also supports liver function and bile flow, which are upstream regulators of bowel function.
  • Slippery elm & licorice: creates a soothing, mucilaginous layer on the gut wall, aiding lubrication for easier transit and the food for a healthy microbiome.
  • Psyllium: adds soluble fiber that attracts water and activates the lubricating (sliminess) quality of the slippery elm and licorice.

3. Lymphatic Congestion

A stagnant lymphatic system may show up as puffiness, fatigue, skin rashes, brain fog, pain, food intolerances, recurring infections, and more. According to Ayurveda, the health of the lymphatic system is linked to longevity. Ayurveda uses foods, herbs, hydration, nose breathing exercises, and specific therapies to clear lymph stagnation and support detox pathways. Here in this herbal guide, I will share my go-to lymph herb. For a deeper dive into the lymphatic system, watch my comprehensive Lymph Lecture here.

What Does the Lymph Do?

  • Carries the immune system
  • Detoxifies every cell of the body
  • Delivers fatty acids for energy, hormones, and cellular function

>>> Herbal Support: Manjistha Capsules (Rubia cordifolia)

  • Supporting lymphatic circulation and drainage
  • Helping cleanse the blood and skin
  • Complementing liver detox pathways

4. Sleep Issues

From the Ayurvedic perspective, the underlying cause of most sleep concerns is not excess energy or overstimulation… it is a chronic state of exhaustion and a lack of the energy needed to naturally sedate the nervous system for deep sleep. Instead of using herbal sedatives, Ayurveda focuses on deep rejuvenation with adaptogenic herbs.

>>> Herbal Adaptogenic Support: Sleep Easy ashwagandha, brahmi, passionflower, skullcap

  • Ashwagandha: an adaptogen that calms stress pathways and supports natural circadian rhythms and deep sleep.
  • Brahmi: traditionally a nervine tonic promoting serenity and deeper, more restful cycles.
  • Passionflower & Skullcap: have calming effects on the nervous system without dulling cognition.

5. Stress and Anxiety

Ayurvedic mood support focuses on tonifying and balancing the nervous system rather than sedation. Chronic stress is exhausting leaving us without the reserve fuel to maintain a state of composure and calm throughout a busy day.

>>> Herbal Support: Happy Caps bacopa, brahmi, shankpushpi, passionflower, skullcap

Happy Caps support:

  • Deep rejuvenation
  • Emotional balance and stress resilience
  • Stabilized mood and reduced anxiety
  • Resiliency under stress
  • Improved cognitive clarity
  • Balanced nervous system response to daily stressors

6. Dysbiosis (Altered Microbiome)

Dysbiosis is an imbalance in the gut microbiome, characterized by a reduction in beneficial bacteria, an overgrowth of harmful bacteria, or a loss of overall microbial diversity. This disruption often causes digestive issues like abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea, or constipation, and is driven by factors such as poor diet, stress, or antibiotic use. In addition, a balanced microbiome influences mood, immunity,  and energy. Ayurveda emphasizes a one month regime of soluble fiber, prebiotic mucilage, and colonizing probiotics that adhere to the gut lining and become permanent residents.

>>> Herbal Support:

Why it works:

  • The goal is to restore a healthy intestinal environment, heal the gut lining, feed a healthy microbiome, remove undesirable microbes, and restore a more diverse and permanent microbiome
  • Mucilaginous herbs in the Slippery Elm Prebiotic Formula provide soluble fiber that protects and nourishes the gut lining while feeding beneficial microbes. Take for one month.
  • In the Gut Guard, the S. boulardii and larch bark help reduce undesirable microbial populations while the colonizing probiotic strains support long-term microbiome colonization without creating a dependency. Take for one month.

7. Compromised Immunity

Strong immunity begins with a well-managed stress response, balanced digestion, antioxidant support and a healthy lymphatic system.

>>> Herbal & Nutritional Support:

  • Liquid Sun Vitamin D3 — optimized vitamin D supports immune regulation.
  • Chyavanprash — an amalaki-based (vit. C) rasayana for immune resilience and overall vigor.

8. Heartburn

Rather than suppressing acid, Ayurveda supports balanced acid function + stomach lining health to reduce what Ayurveda calls udvarta or upward digestive symptoms.

>>> Herbal Support: Cool Digest marshmallow, amalaki, coriander, fennel

These herbs:

  • Soothe the stomach lining
  • Cool excess heat
  • Encourage gentle, balanced acid production
  • Support mucosal protection and comfort

9. Liver Congestion & Bile Sludge

Ayurveda considers the liver the kingpin of digestion, detoxification, and metabolism. Liver congestion and bile sludge are common today because of processed foods, seed oils, and chemical and environmental pollutants.  Herbs and foods that stimulate bile flow are called cholagogues and clear stagnation, supporting everything from energy metabolism to digestion and cholesterol.

>>> Herbal Support:

  • Liver Repair  — bitter roots and amalaki berry support liver function and bile production
  • Beet Cleanse— supports bile duct cleansing, fat metabolism & detox pathways

10. Blood Sugar and Weight Support

Stable blood sugar supports energy, mood, weight balance, and metabolic health. In the US, almost 40% of the population has prediabetes, and 90% of those folks do not know it. This is linked to out-of-control rates of obesity. The latest CDC report found that 73% of adults over 20 are either overweight or obese in the US. The treatment starts with addressing our addiction to the sweet taste.

>>> Herbal Support for Blood Sugar:

These herbs support:

  • Healthy glucose metabolism
  • Pancreatic function
  • Balanced post-meal spikes
  • Metabolic health
