Purity Testing Your Herbs

Early in Dr. John’s career, he spent a lot of time in India. While there, he would buy herbs and have them tested in India. Once he came back to the United States he would have them tested again. More times than not, the tests done in the United States would show high levels of heavy metals. Since then, Dr. John has spent 30+ years finding the most trusted and approved Ayurvedic farmers both in the United States and outside the country to create a product line that is well-tested and pure.

When purchasing and taking herbs, Dr. John recommends generally avoiding herbs that are only tested in India simply because of the rubber stamping that goes on in terms of purity. Make sure your products are GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) certified. At LifeSpa, all of our herbs are manufactured in a FDA-registered facility in the United States. While herbs grown in India can be perfectly ok to take, it is best for them to be tested within the US. It is a matter of ensuring they were grown in low-toxicity soil, and the testing within the US is more reliable.

The testing process LifeSpa herbs undergo includes testing the raw materials in the United States for metals, identity, microbacteria, and an organoleptic test (smell, taste, color, texture). Once those tests are completed, the herbs are formulated. Those formulated batches are then organoleptic tested again. Finally, they are encapsulated, bottled, and tested again for identity and microbacteria.

Nutrient Synergy

Nutrient synergy is when you combine multiple nutrients together to have a greater impact on the body. In Ayurveda, the concept of nutrient synergy was well understood. Unlike whole herbs, extracts are sterile and usually miss out on nutrient synergy. Dr. John has spent years combining the correct herbs to mimic nature and access the most benefits possible.

Consciously Clean Skincare

When developing our Consciously Clean Skincare line, LifeSpa consciously made the products as clean as possible. Dr. John’s skincare line started back in 1998 with an Ayurvedic body butter. Since then, LifeSpa has continued to grow the clean skincare line by adding a face moisturizer, wrinkle serum, a cleanser/toner, a mud mask, and massage oils.

None of the products have water, which allows us to avoid adding any preservatives. Water is what grows the bacteria in products, so products that contain water have to have some version of a preservative. Since there is no water in LifeSpa’s formulas, they are much more concentrated. When using LifeSpa’s Consciously Clean Skincare, you will want to add your product to your hand and either apply it to damp skin or add a bit of water to your hand and then apply the product.
