Marise Cipriani, a long time patient and friend of LifeSpa, started a foundation about a year ago called “Kapoks.” You may remember Marise from my Gaiam Weight Loss DVD, in which she was featured.
Kapoks began when Marise’s work in Brasil inspired her to help the indigenous people in the town of Lourenço, Amapá”a developing community located in a remote area of the Amazon jungle.
I fell in love with her mission and became a board member of Kapoks when I heard her plan to use the proven model of Enterprise Facilitation to help local people develop businesses using their traditional skills and abilities, rather than trying to change their way of life.
Sadly, many foundations who give generous donations to developing communities create dependencies on those funds and when they dry up, these communities can suffer once again. With the mission of “first do no harm,” Kapoks is about inspiring and guiding entrepreneurship in poor communities around the world to take their indigenous skills and make them an economic success.
This concept has been proven successful around the world for years by Kapok’s new partner, the Sirolli Institute.
To help raise funds for Kapoks, and as a means of personal inspiration and transformation, Marise has decided to embark on a 432 mile pilgrimage through Spain and France.
On August 28, she started from Saint Jean Pied de Port, France. She will cross the Pyrenees, a total elevation gain of 4,964 feet, into Spain. Thirty-two days later she will arrive at Santiago de Compostela in Northern Spain, on the 28th of September.
I have chosen to support her efforts and invite you to do the same.
