Moods. They can appear to come and go without rhyme or reason and have a very real effect on our relationships and our lives. While they can seem beyond our control, according to Ayurveda, there are clear physical markers that can help us find greater stability in our experience of our moods.
One of these is nutritional deficiencies. For instance, a lack of optimal B12 levels can significantly affect nervous system function including moods, and vitamin D deficiency is notorious for having a hand in the blues.
Other physical markers include proper exercise and a balanced diet for your constitution, known as a dosha in Ayurveda. Learning about your dosha and the appropriate diet and lifestyle choices to create balance in your constitution are some key ways to foster more mental clarity and a stable mood.
The Ayurvedic term for a peaceful and calm state of mind is sattva. The Ayurvedic practices of yoga, meditation, and breathing, are all ultimately geared towards bringing about a sattvic state of mind. Our emotional body type quiz can help give you an idea of where your moods and emotions spend most of their time – whether its sattva, or rajas or tamas, the two other common emotional states delineated in Ayurveda.

This brain and memory tonic is especially good for kapha types, who can suffer from low energy levels and sluggishness.
Brahmi Brain is one of the most powerful brain tonics in the Ayurvedic apothecary. B12 Boost: This large and hard-to-digest nutrient is also one of the most necessary for the brain and nervous system. Without enough of it (and studies indicate that the current medical standards for deficiency may be too low), our cognitive function, memory, mood, and energy levels can become compromised. Motivation and drive are also bolstered by this nutrient. A sublingual form is the most effective and least invasive currently known way to boost B12 levels up to par.
Ojas Nightly Tonic: According to Ayurveda, many nervous system and cognitive issues, including issues of mood, are actually at their core issues of energy and vitality. When we are stressed and depleted, the body doesn’t have enough energy to sedate itself to go to sleep or to stabilize its moods. Ojas is a substance created in the body as the ultimate by-product of digestion and is a measure of our energy, immunity, and vitality. Stress depletes ojas, while certain foods and herbs build it. Try our Ojas Nightly Tonic formula for boosting ojas in a delicious and enjoyable way.
Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil: The oil of the coconut – known is Kerala, India as the “perfect food,” is made up of medium-chain fatty acids that are easy to digest and quickly metabolize to boost metabolism and energy levels. Its energy is converted into ketones – an alternative to sugar – delivered directly into the bloodstream and to the brain, providing a quick boost of energy where we often need it most.
