Chyawanprash

Chyawanprash is a classic Ayurvedic superfood with a supporting cast of over 40 organic herbs for anyone who needs support to avoid vata imbalances during seasonal changes and stressful life transitions.

The base and key ingredient of this formula is Amalaki, or Indian Gooseberry, a powerful antioxidant fruit that is considered a superfood in India for its potent free radical-scavenging properties.

Chyawanprash helps support the body’s natural ability to remove toxins or “ama” and boost “ojas” which, in Ayurveda, supports optimal vigor and vitality.

The Legend

Chyawan was an old man in his nineties when he found the love of his life. Unfortunately, his love was a young, beautiful woman in her twenties. Well, they fell in love and decided to marry and have children, but Chyawan was too old to start a family. So he sought counsel with some Ayurvedic experts who specialized in longevity. He told the doctors he finally found the love of his life and needed to become youthful again to bear children and live a long happy life with his new-found love.

The doctors prepared a special formula for Chyawan which gave him the youthful vitality he sought. This formula was Chyawanprash. “Prash” means “to eat” – to this day the name has stuck and literally means “what Chyawan ate” to restore his youthful vigor.

Suggested use:  For a traditional preparation, take 1-2 teaspoons of LifeSpa’s Organic Chyawanprash in a cup of warm milk or hot water. Alternatively, spread on toast like a jam or take by the spoonful to boost immunity.

Amalaki, also known as amla or Indian Gooseberry, belongs to a group of herbs described in Ayurvedic texts as rasayana. According to Ayurveda, rasayana herbs promote youthfulness and longevity, and induce nourishment. Modern science has been equally fascinated by Amalaki. One study even referred to it as “the Ayurvedic wonder,” as it supports everything from digestion to elimination, immunity, and inner and outer skin health. Amalaki has repeatedly shown to support heart and arterial health, healthy blood sugar levels, cholesterol levels already within the normal range, and overall vitality.
